Privacy policy

This page explains what data startupindex.net collects, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: we keep as little as we can, we do not sell anything, and we do not run advertising trackers.

What we collect

• Your email address when you sign in, subscribe to the newsletter or submit a startup.
• The name you choose to show next to comments, if you set one.
• The startup details you submit, including the logo.
• Your upvotes and comments.
• Competitor analysis requests and results, a protected hash of your IP address for the two-analysis anonymous allowance, and a random browser token for private report access.
• Your competitor tracking subscriptions, payment references, reports and email notification preferences.
• Server logs with IP address, browser type and the pages requested, kept for up to 30 days for security and to stop abuse.

Why we use it

• To sign you in and keep your session.
• To show your listing, votes and comments on the site.
• To email you about your listing, your boosts and, if you subscribed, the weekly newsletter.
• To detect spam, fake votes and other abuse.

Who else sees it

• Resend delivers our email and receives your email address for that purpose.
• Mollie processes payments for boosts and recurring competitor tracking. We never see your card details.
• Anthropic processes public website information and any product description you provide to generate competitor analyses and report summaries.
• Cloudflare sits in front of the site to serve it fast and block attacks.
• The hosting provider that runs our servers in the European Union.

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.

Shared comparisons

Analyses and image downloads are private by default. When you publish a card, we save a separate snapshot of the selected comparison, domain profile or next steps, with its sources and date. Anyone with its public link can view it. The snapshot does not include your email, browser token or account identifiers. You can revoke the link from your report; copies already downloaded or cached elsewhere may remain.

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and an analysis cookie to provide private access to anonymous reports. There are no advertising cookies. See the cookie policy.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it. Email [email protected] and we answer within 30 days. Newsletter emails have an unsubscribe link.

Retention

Account data stays until you delete the account. Listings stay online as part of the directory unless the owner removes them. Payment records are kept as long as tax law requires.

Anonymous analysis records and their protected IP hashes are retained to enforce the one-time free allowance. When you sign in from the same browser, its unclaimed reports are attached to your account. You can turn competitor report emails off in Manage tracking while keeping reports available in your account.

We record when your account uses its free competitor tracking activation. This record stays with your account after tracking is canceled so the one-time offer cannot be reused.

Changes

We update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
